Abdul Waheed, Ph.D., Emeritus Research Professor of Biochemistry, gifted $1 million to the Department of Biochemistry in honor of William S. Sly, M.D., former chair and Emeritus Professor in the department, and a long-time mentor and colleague of Dr. Waheed.
The gift will support the future Centennial Chair.
The Chair was initially established as part of the upcoming 100 year celebration of the department. To recognize Dr. Waheed’s gift, the endowed chair will be called the William S. Sly Centennial Chair. So far, about $1.5 million of the $2 million needed for endowment has been raised.
This generous gift will support the future research endeavors of the department and help continue the legacy of scientific excellence started by Edward A. Doisy almost 100 years ago.
