Two medical students from BMB tied for first place in the 2024 Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Student Research Forum. Forty-three students first competed at the AOA poster session in January. Eight finalists were chosen to give oral presentations of their research at the final session in February.
Simi Karunakaran, from the lab of Edwin Antony, Ph.D., and Regan Orr, from the lab of Yuna Ayala, Ph.D., tied for first place in the oral presentations. Both Simi and Regan will head to the National Student Research Forum in Galveston, TX, to present their findings.
Simi’s presentation was entitled “A model for Rad51 assembly by mediator (Rad52/BRCA2) complexes in HR.”
Regan’s presentation was entitled “Binding assays to determine binding affinities for previously identified oligonucleotide sequences to TDP-43 and mutants.”
