Edwin Antony Awarded NIH Grant for AUC Purchase

Edwin Antony, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Biochemistry, received a shared instrument grant from the NIH to purchase an Optima Analytical Ultracentrifuge (AUC). The AUC from Beckman will provide unique analytical capabilities to multiple investigators in the School of Medicine as well as helping to promote new collaborations between departments.

AUC allows for measurement of sample shape, size, and heterogeneity as well as the strength of biomolecular interactions. Analysis can be performed under native conditions for the protein of interest. In addition, the AUC will aid in on-going structural analyses via cryo-electron microscopy in several labs and in collaboration with the Washington University Center for Cellular Imaging (WUCCI) in accordance with the recent agreement between Washington University and SLU.

The instrument is housed in the Antony Lab in the Doisy Research Center.
