William S. Sly, M.D., Emeritus Professor and Chair of Biochemistry from 1984 – 2010, has passed away at the age of 92. You may read details of Dr. Sly’s life and career in Newslink.
Dr. Sly defined us as “the BMB family” through his leadership, integrity, and scientific excellence. We will be forever grateful. We extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Sly’s family.

A retrospective and tribute to Dr. Sly was recently published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation. The article was authored by two former colleagues, Stuart Kornfeld, M.D., and Ali Shilatifard, Ph.D.
An In Memoriam for Dr. Sly was published in the August 2025 issue of ASBMB Today, the member magazine for the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
A retrospective for Dr. Sly was published in September 2025 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA (PNAS).
